Taichung Compass Wins the 2008 Taiwan Spring Cup!

Congratulations to Taichung Compass for winning the Champion's Cup in the 2008 Taiwan Spring Cup!

After a shaky start with a 0-2 loss to JFC in the group stage, the lads rallied with a win over the Taichung Scunners and a draw with the Red Lions to get through into the Cup Competition group stage as second in the group.

The Cup Competition group was a difficult lot, with matches against Tainan Phoenix, Taipei Animals and Kaohsiung Pacers - all past Cup Champions. A 0-0 draw against the Phoenix, a 1-0 win over the Animals and a 1-0 win over the Pacers (goal with 1 minute remaining) was enough to put Compass through to the Cup Final.

In the Cup Final, Compass again met JFC. Scoreless after the first period, Compass striker Ben B. slotted one home with five minutes remaining to clinch the win.

It was a superb team effort both days of competition- midfield dominated, defense was tight and strikers capitalized on the opportunities that mattered.

This marks the fourth time since 2001 that Compass has won a Taiwan Cup, but the first in Taipei (now, one in each of Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung). Also, Compass still retains the distinction of being the team with the most "Runners Up" titles since 2001.

"We are the champions, we are the champions...of Taiwan" could be heard across the pitch as the Champions Cup was held high.
