Match Report: 3-3 vs. Taichung P.E. College

May 31, 2009: Taichung Compass FC vs. Taichung P.E. College round 4. Compass has been chipping away at the P.E. College strategy which resulted in a 3-3 draw this past weekend.

First half: First string in for PE College, put Compass under attack from the beginning. Around 20 minutes in, they found a play that drew our center defense out to protect a shot while sending runners through for the pass option. They scored two goals on this same play before Compass figured it out and plugged the hole with a center midfielder. The third goal in the first half was a Compass own goal on some tight action in the box. Compass had three pretty good chances first half, but were denied by the keeper. As always, offsides calls against Compass were frequent, some good calls, some perhaps questionable.

Second half: Some second-stringers in for PE College, allowed Compass to go on the attack from the beginning. Ben, Don, Seb, Camillo just shelling their goal. A number of offsides calls against Compass on clear goal opportunities - questionable calls even to individuals on the sidelines at the offsides line. First goal for Compass came after repeated pressure by Compass strikers on the goal, finally resulting in a corner kick. Ben finalized the push with a decisive slot into the net off the corner kick. Second goal for Compass, again I believe by Ben, off of a series of very nice one-touch and give/go passes starting from the Compass side of the field - text book and very satisfying. Third goal from Compass on a steal by Ben off of a goal-kick: pass to far-post.

In general, everyone stepped up a notch - each player fought for their position and made stand-out plays. Loved seeing Gerry and Doug put the stops on their wingers!
