Match Report: 2 - 0 Win vs. Taichung Tubbies Football Team
Sunday, September 13, 2009
Kick off at 4pm in fairly sweltering conditions saw both teams with full squads - the first full showing since the start of the summer. Although Tubbies were well prepared, Compass possession of the ball dominated the play and gave very little site of the net to their attack. However, due to some rustiness in Compass finishing touch, only two opportunities saw completion.
Action started strong from both sides, with Compass showing good on-the-ground possession and Tubbies attacking hard on through balls to the wings. As always, Ben and Don were connecting up front to look very dangerous on feeds from the midfield. Nearing the end of the first period, Don controlled and fed into the center for a finish by Ben - 1:0. After the goal, the pressure the Tubbies were applying was relieved significantly as their morale dipped.
Second period was Compass day with the midfield absolutely unchallenged allowing what seemed to be an almost at-will shelling of the Tubbies goal. However, due to misfortune, or a case of the I-haven't-played-all-summer-my-touch-is-off blues, Compass was not able to finish on multiple opportunities. Finally, Benoit makes a strong attack in the 18 to beat a defender and have a chance on goal, but was flattened from behind. Despite not having referees, all hands were in agreement that should there have been a referee, they would have called a PK. Sebastien, braving a significant historical probability of rejection, steps up to the plate and converts for a 2-0 lead.
Third period saw renewed pressing from the Tubbies who at times looked dangerous on their right wing, but were not able to drive all the way to goal. Compass again had multiple one-on-one opportunities in the 18 but came up empty-handed.
Thanks to new recruits Hugo and Vassily who immediately contributed, and look to be strong additions to the squad!
