Match Report 8-3 Win vs. Chungshing University
Good job in the match against Chunghsing U. Alumni today. There were some very pretty goals in our 8-3 victory, spread across several players. Thanks to a aggressive Chunghsing team which never gave up, it was a hard-fought game. The first half in particular was a back-and-forth slugging match--every time Compass would score, they would tie us up. Eventually, however, we pulled ahead and kept building up our lead into the second half, despite the heat, humidity and tiredness. The second half only saw one goal from them--a PK given on a foul in our box.
If my memory serves properly, Ben and Ricky both got a pair of goals. Coming in as a sub in the first half, Ricky scored on what I believe was his second touch on the ball, followed not long afterwards by his second. Must have been all that pent-up energy! Other nice goals came from Seb, who volleyed in a power shot from close range; plus Gaetan, heading a cross down so it bounced down and up into the top of the net; and Robert, chipping one from the right side outside the box, up and under the bar. One of the most delightful goals came from the Morry (a.k.a. "the Compass Youth Program"), whose happy exuberance at scoring a nice inaugural goal for Compass was just as fun as the goal itself (also followed by a big hug from Chris).
Although we were missing a few key players, I was happy to have about 15-16 guys show up. Keiron unexpectedly turned up and made big contributions on defense with Chris, Eugene and the defensive concrete wall known as David. Artem also ended up playing with us (this being the Chunghsing alumni team) and DJ and Seth are clearly back in fighting form again. We were also very happy to have Tom playing his first match for us, plus our 'guest keeper' Joseph from Morrison's varsity (thanks to Terry for arranging this).
Go Compass!
